Connie McCoy is inspired by lighting and the dramatic effects that can be achieved through it's manipulation. She paints representational with a bent towards abstraction. When in abstract, she feels the loosening of the style allows her to be much bolder and expressive.
The creative process has been her life. After a successful career in advertising and graphic design she now dedicates her time to painting and sculpture which are her passions.
She graduated with a B.S. in Advertising and Graphic Design from the University of Cincinnati, College of Design, Architecture and Art and became an art director and graphic designer in Cincinnati and then San Diego. In 1985 she started her own design business. Numerous awards have been granted her in her profession including: “100 Best”, “The Best in the West”, “Illustration West”, The Creative Show of San Diego, The San Diego Union Tribune Awards., The San Diego Ad Club President’s Award and St. Regis National Packaging Award.
In 1999 she started painting with Sebastian Capella and later with Jeff Watts at The Watts Atelier. Artist Workshops she has taken include: Dan Gerhardtz, Laura Robb, Carolyn Anderson, Ken Auster, Calvin Liang, Peggy Kroll Roberts, Ray Roberts and Susan Sarback. She studies sculpture with Lynn Forbes.
