San Diego artist Sherry Roper has been painting in watercolor and oil for many years. Her work has been included in numerous local, national and international exhibits and has won many awards. Her paintings have been featured in two editions of North Light Publishing’s Splash: Best of Watercolor series of books, Splash 16: Exploring Texture, and Splash 17: Inspiring Subjects.
Now painting exclusively in oil, Sherry is inspired by the classical realism style of art. She paints in an indirect method, using careful drawing and a monochromatic underpainting, followed by several layers of color painting and glazing to achieve a highly refined finish.
She has a unique talent for describing her subject with accuracy and precision while at the same time accentuating the qualities that make it truly captivating. Hoping to produce a sense of mindfulness in the viewer, she chooses subjects that reflect her appreciation of nature and the simple pleasures in life, highlighting the intricate nuances of everyday scenes and objects.
Sherry is a member of Oil Painters of America, the San Diego Museum of Art Artists Guild, the Oceanside Museum of Art Artist Alliance, the La Jolla Art Association, and is a Signature Member of the San Diego Watercolor Society. A California native, she lives in the Scripps Ranch area of San Diego with her husband, Greg.
